The Indicator Formula: The indicating spots contain a deliquescent salt and a pH-sensitive organic indicator.

The Color Change (Brown to Green): When the relative humidity inside the packaging rises, the deliquescent compounds absorb the moisture, slightly altering the local environment's pH. This pH shift causes the organic indicator to change its molecular structure, which results in a distinct, visible color transition.

Reading the Card: The card features multiple spots corresponding to different percentages of relative humidity (e.g., 5%, 10%, 60%). The highest percentage spot that turns green indicates the approximate relative humidity of the air inside the package.

Reversibility: As moisture levels decrease (for example, if you replace the desiccant in the package), the chemical spots will gradually dehydrate and revert to their original brown color, making the card reusable.

 

 

Storage and processing of Cobalt Free Humidity Indicator Card

When storing, keep indicators in their original container, sealed with a desiccant if possible.
Replace desiccant after container is opened three times.
Store in a cool, dry area.
Keep indicators away from water or steam.
