Uses Of Humidity Indicator Cards

A humidity indicator card is a convenient tool for monitoring the relative humidity inside sealed packaging. It primarily uses color changes to visually reflect the ambient humidity level, determining whether the product is in a safe, dry condition. Its core uses include the following:

1. Monitoring Humidity Within Packaging

Humidity indicator cards are commonly placed in the moisture-proof packaging of electronic components, semiconductors, optical instruments, and precision equipment to monitor humidity changes in the sealed space in real time. When the humidity inside the packaging reaches or exceeds a set value, the indicator point on the card changes from a dry color (e.g., blue) to a hygroscopic color (e.g., pink), indicating a potential risk of moisture absorption.

2. Assessing Desiccant Effectiveness

By observing the color change of the humidity card, one can indirectly determine whether the desiccant inside the packaging is still working effectively. If the indicator point changes color, it indicates that the desiccant may be saturated or the packaging seal may be compromised, requiring timely replacement of the desiccant or resealing.

3. Ensuring Product Storage and Transportation Safety

In fields such as electronics manufacturing, military, and medical equipment, many components are extremely sensitive to humidity. Using humidity indicator cards ensures a dry environment for products throughout the supply chain, preventing oxidation, corrosion, and poor welding caused by moisture, thus reducing quality risks and after-sales issues.

4. Compliant with International Environmental and Export Standards

Humidity indicator cards are divided into cobalt-containing and cobalt-free types. Traditional cobalt-containing cards use cobalt chloride as the moisture-sensing material, but because it is classified as a Group 2 carcinogen and does not comply with the EU RoHS directive, it has been gradually phased out. Currently, cobalt-free humidity indicator cards are widely used, employing environmentally friendly alternative materials, complying with REACH regulations and export requirements, and suitable for global trade scenarios.
